Company Description: Calgary Transit provides public transportation for riders throughout the city. Millions of riders take the bus or C-Train each day, reducing by hundreds of tones Calgary’s motor vehicle carbon emissions. Calgary Transit encourages residents to take additional steps to help reduce the amount of pollutants released into the environment: walk, cycle or car pool; use clean fuel; and keep personal vehicles in good repair.
Interactive maps on the Calgary Transit website let travelers plan their trips and check out the stops on each route. Riders can use cash to pay for each individual trip, or they can purchase a daily, monthly or annual pass. Seniors, school-aged riders and low-income individuals may be eligible for reduced fares. Guests can bring their dogs along on the ride for an additional fare.
Calgary Transit celebrates its centennial year in 2009. One hundred years ago, the Calgary Electric Street Car Railway began business, hauling passengers around the city in its 12 cars. Today, the public utility operates hundreds of buses and light rail trains, and brings riders to and from all parts of the city.
Data collected by the Calgary Police and Calgary Transit’s Public Safety department suggest that the transit system offers riders a very safe environment for getting around the city.
